LAL Chief Executive Officer

Jim has a lifelong passion for sport having participated in many over the past 40 years, ranging from local recreational to club and national levels and fulfilling a variety of coaching roles along the way.

It naturally followed that the chosen career path was also in sport, leisure and physical activity in both the public and Charitable Trust sectors. Having started at ‘grass roots’ level and gaining wide-ranging experience and qualifications along the way, Jim gained a Master of Arts Degree in Leisure Policy and Practice from Heriot-Watt University and is a Fellow of the industry’s Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity.

Following some years in the local authority leisure sector, Jim moved into the Charitable Leisure Trust sector in the late 1980’s and has seen and been part of a period of great change, opportunity, challenge and growth. He remains an avid believer that Charitable Trusts present an effective and efficient model to maximise opportunity and benefits for communities with 100% of resources being reinvested into the provision of the facilities and services.

Now holding the position of Chief Executive of Live Active Leisure, one of the country’s longest standing Trusts, he remains as motivated now, as ever, to ensure that sport, leisure and physical activity is recognised for, and plays a major part in, enhancing quality of life across Perth and Kinross and Scotland.
