David has lived in Perth since 1976. He went to Perth Academy before joining the local Bank of Scotland in St John St. He then joined United Distillers in 1986, now known as Diageo PLC. David spent 22 years with Diageo performing various sales, marketing and trade relations roles. One of these roles included managing all aspects of Bells Whisky sponsorship activities in Scotland. During this time he managed the successful Bells sponsorship of the Scottish Football league. David completed his career with Diageo in a global role as Director of Brand Protection.
 
In 2007 David was appointed as the first ever Chief Executive of the Scottish Football League and during six successful years he doubled the net profit of the league and attracted high quality sponsors for the Leagues major tournaments including IRN BRU, the Cooperative Group, Ramsdens, ALBA TV and the Scottish Government. David was also responsible for all aspects of Football Governance during his tenure including the many rules and regulations which apply to Professional League Clubs.
 
Following the merger of the Scottish Football League and the Scottish Premier league in 2013 , David has established his own commercial consultancy business called SPORTSBRIDGE which advises sporting organisations and brands on their sponsorship and commercial activities.
 
David has won national titles in both Curling and Bowling and has represented Scotland at Indoor Bowls. He is an enthusiast for all sports and has a keen interest in Scottish Culture and Heritage.
