AHP LEAD, NHS Tayside

Jane Dernie is an Allied Health Professional Lead for Perth and Kinross Community Health Partnership (CHP) which is part of NHS Tayside. She is a qualified physiotherapist and her role is to line manage and provide professional leadership for Physiotherapists, Occupational therapists and Podiatrists in Perth and Kinross area. Allied Health Professions are a broad family of 10 professions who link together to provide services across the full age spectrum and in a variety of community and hospital settings. AHP's have expertise in rehabilitation and this often involves being active; so the agenda of making our population more active to improve their health and wellbeing feels intuitive to my role. Nationally in Scotland AHP's have made an "Activity Pledge"

“We will work with a range of partners to increase the level of physical activity in Scotland”

Within Perth and Kinross Community Health Partnership Jane has been asked to coordinate CHP services response to increasing awareness around the benefits of activity for its staff so they can effect their own lives and those of their patients. Jane chairs a CHP working group on this and she engages locally with partnership organisations involved in promotion of activity via the local PAHA group.

Personally she is a keen participant in sport, understanding its benefits as she does. She tries to champion its benefits to all she comes into contact with. Jane feels that Perth and Kinross has so much to offer in sporting and environmental terms for those wanting to be more active and she is keen that this continues to promote activity levels in the population.
